  1. Cakir's appointments is surely no surprise, but I wonder why Ongun is replaced by Eyisoy, I know that latter is young and a big talent, already tested by UEFA in youth championships, but it is nonetheless a small surprise.
Nice to see that UEFA seems to have appreciated the perfomances of referees like Gräfe, Clattenburg and Kralovec.

  2. What about Kassai? His appointment seems unexpected, after Bayern - City.
Very important game for Kralovec, even though I think Villarreal isn't a so strong team at moment and City shuld have a easy match.
Big match also for Benquerenca, but I don't understand why Brych for Otelul Galati match.

  3. hm perhaps preparation for a EL final?
The match will be played in the new Bucuresti Arena. I furthermore think that ManU must win, as they did not manage to win their first two matches.
Basel-Benfica is a very important game, imagine ManU just draw in Bucuresti and Benfica win...
Benquerenca well, Bayern does not get away goals at the moment, Neuer keeps everything. 3-0 for Bayern is my bet.

  4. DRAGAN :
Very interesting appointments. We'll see the nominations for wednesday, but it's indicative that there are referees who officiated 3 or 4 matches in last month and a half, including that in EURO qualifications, and also obvious that some referees from Elite Group still don't have received a CL group match (Undiano, Nikolaev, Blom), also some from Elite Development (Chapron, Gumienny).

So..... very strange policy of UEFA Referee Commitee ahead of EURO 2012. I think, according to appointments for the first 3 roundsod group matches, we can define the list for EURO 2012, where it's obvious that there will be place for "new" names like Eriksson, Cakir, Brych, Vellasco...

  5. I hope so. The best solution would be in my opinion:

1 POR, 1 GER, 1 ESP, 1 ENG, Rizzoli, Skomina, Kuipers, Kassai, Thomson, Eriksson, Cakir, Moen.

  6. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

  7. Stavrev got Barcelona match... what a big surprise here!

  8. Gautier, Harald Hagen, Nijhuis, is this a Champions League matchday or not?
    Really amazing appointments...!

  9. WOOOOOOOOW brilliant appointments!!
Will add them, just returned from school!!

  10. next time pls Mazic, Hategan, Strahonja and de Sousa...

Carlos asked me whether we could plan who watches which match. Of course, everyone is watching what is shown in his country and what / which team he or she wants to see. It would be nonetheless great to have a large amount of CL match reports, have a close look on the Worldreferee.com Top 10, too many CONMEBOL and AFC refs (thanks to Carlos/Maicon...and THE ENG ) That may not stay like that ;)

  11. forgot to say: Adieu Blom.

  12. forgot to say: Adieu Blom.

I agree, who ever was observer on Scotland-Czech Rep. match, he wrote something very, very bad.

  13. so I suggest that we will make it as we did it during the last u20 wc.

  14. Dino, do you want to make Dinamo-Ajax?
Perhaps a Wednesday match as well?

  15. Yes, I think so, too.
We'll see Mazic and Strahonja in the next matchdays, I'm sure.
Not so much sure about Hategan and de Sousa.
However, I like this new UEFA policy, finally we read some new names.
I hope to read many reports too, and obviously I'll download many full matches from the internet. This is a really important matchday for several UEFA referees.

  16. yeap, I fully agree. De Sousa, after a strong perfomance in Schalke-Haifa, he now has got Tottenham-Rubin (!!!!) in EL, Banti for Larnaka-Schalke, Duhamel for Hannover-Kobenhavn, Studer and Kelly with rather small games.

  17. Chefren, which matches can you watch on Tuesday / Wednesday evening? ( I download matches as well, but one cannot always be sure one gets it with good quality etc.)

  18. I can watch olympiakos vs dortmund and the 2 greek teams at EL.

  19. very good! EL is probably not so "requested" at WR, I think one can easily write a report for those matches. You are added..BTW: Olympiacos-Dortmund is for Elite, Edward ? ;)

  20. DRAGAN:

What happened with our appointments for CL Round 3? I still can't find them on your blog.. In this amazing nominations, I think that I have 2 right appointments.. :))))))

  21. I will post them tomorrow, along with the results.
I assume that you predicted Stavrev, if it is so, I think you'll get 3 Bonuspoints...:D

  22. Dragan, could you watch a match and write a match report?

  23. DRAGAN:

Yes, I predicted Stavrev !!! (Points are not so important, of course).

About writing a match report for this blog, I don't know if I am useful, because in Macedonia there will be broadcasted Real-Lyon (on Tuesday) and Marseille-Arsenal (on Wednesday).. I think you already have reporters for these 2 matches..

  24. does not matter whether we have one or two reports, it is even better when we have difficult opinions.
There are nice download sites with full matches in HD quality, you perhaps could watch one of these (perhaps Shakhtar or Milan). We have to write more reports for UEFA officials at all.

  25. Dragan, you are booked for Real-Lyon ;)

  26. DRAGAN:
Ok, no problem. I'll watch the match and analyse the performans of Mr Cakir (I hope that Carlos doesn't have problems with this).
I suppose that our reports should be similar to those on www.worldreferee.com. If there is any special moment that I should pay attention to, please tell me.

  27. No, actually these reports are planned to be published at worldreferee.com, but I could publish them here as well (the best is both..).
It would be however good that all the reporters pay attention to the following percentage:
    CONTROL 25 %
    CALLS 25 %
    NEUTRALITY: 20 %
    STYLE: 20 %
    DIFFICULTY: 10 %

  28. Hi hi,

Normally I write some reports in worldreferee. I am available for to do a report about the games with portuguese teams involed. If you need help with Kassai and/or Gautier let me know with a comment here.

  29. OF COURSE!!
Porto and Benfica for Pipo, very nice, thanks. What is your surname (or the first letter of it)?

  30. T
(normally i sign as fctav in worldreferee...)

  31. I'm sorry, I just came home. I'll do Dinamo-Ajax match :)

  32. Only one match with out reporter, looking for someone who can watch lille vs inter...
Thank to all of you for let this be a reality...

  33. Is there a site where we can see or download a full match? Because if there is i could do Webb's match.

BTW: It is Edward A. not K. Niklas. And Yes Olympiakos vs Dortmund needed an Elite Referee.

  34. rojadiretca.es

Normally with livestream but full match one day later as well.

    Ok, sry, I'll change it.
Shakhtar-Zenit is still free as well!

  35. Ok I will do Webb the next day.

  36. There are a couple of exams (chemistry etc.), perhaps you can imagine that I cannot check it too often. But in this case, you can certainly do it.

  37. But I think Shakhtar-Zenit will be available as download as well, that would be good then

  38. Ok then i will do Shakhtar-Zenit.

Just on question: I go to rojadiretca.es and then what?

  39. the main page shows on the left handside a lift of live streams, underneath the heading "rojadirecta.es", there is "full matches", there will be a lot of threads of all the CL matches with video links (megaupload etc) in HD quality.

  40. sry download matches is the link, you are then directly linked to the roja-dir.-forum

  41. It doen't appear. The only thing it shows is 5 links who change if i do a refresh.

  42. Found the mistake. It is rojadirecta.me not .es. OK I will do Shakhtar-Zenit.

  43. Oh yes, of course. Sorry.

  44. Niclas, I'm from Italy (Chefren is just a nickname, and it isn't my real name). I can't write for sure a match report because I'm very busy at moment. my plans are to watch Napoli this evening and Milan tomorrow. I'll try to write my opinions here (if possible), sorry I can't do more.

  45. No problem!
I think getting more than just one opinion cannot harm, and both are interesting matches.

  46. there are two very remarkable observer appointments in EL:

    Hapoel-PSV: Karasev observed by Vassaras
Tottenham-Rubin: de Sousa observed by Jörn Larsen.

  47. Soooo the first match has been played!
    Clattenburg evaluation already at WR!
    Detailed evaluation:

    Control (25%): 8,0
    Calls (25%): 7,2
    Neutrality (20%): 8,0
    Style (20%): 8,5
    Match difficulty (10%): 5,0

    = 7,6

  48. I don't think Brych's red card to Vidic is going to stand up well to scrutiny.

  49. High pace, stud is up, no chance for the ball, foul in the midfield. No reasons for red?
    Benquerenca was very awful.

  50. did not see Cakir's match, but congrats to Emre Eyisoy. Two correctly disallowed goal, that is a good debut..

  51. Benquerenca did not see a clear penalty for Napoli, his first additional assistant gave a wrong one to Bayern.
I agree with your analysis on worldreferee Niclas, however I have also to say that the Portuguese wasn't so bad at all. He gave almost all correct cards but the big mistake is about penalty. Theatrical and fussy as always, even in his birthday :)

  52. yeap.
Absolutely, he was not that bad. If he had whistled the penalty to Napoli and not whistled the one to Bayern, it would have been a 7,3-7,5 with a bad comment on his style. That means, the cards are his usual instrument to get control, one need not like it. But this situation with Lavezzi and the position where the ball has to lie for the free kick. They discussed about 2 metres and he gave yellow. This underlines my impression that he even wants to show cards. He took every possibility and had luck that the players sometimes behaved in a stupid way so that he could caution them.

  53. Agree with Cakir's comments. Show the whole match. This guy deserves to be at Euro 2012.

  54. did anyone see the 2-1 of Man City? The decisions made by Zlamal are to my mind worldclass. Excellent excellent excellent. With Kralovec, we have a very great hope, Czech refereeing has improved a lot, Kovarik is a good referee as well, Zelinka a talent, so there are many good guys!

  55. Niclas,

Though I agree with your description of Vidic's tackle, I do not agree with your conclusion that it is a red card.

Almost all tackle are made with the studs exposed at some point during their execution. We are taught to focus on the point of contact and the actual danger to the opponent.

Vidic tackled high, yes. And it was at midfield to stop and attack. But was the tackle with excessive force or did it endanger the safety of his opponent? I think not. It was only a split-second late and Vidic's leg merely tripped the opponent... he did NOT hit him with his studs or in any other sort of violent manner. I think a yellow card would have sufficed. If Vidic's tackle was worthy of a red card, then we could have multiple red cards in nearly every top game.

  56. Hi Suricate, hi bloggers,

what do you think about the nominations of Laurent Duhamel? First the unattractive UCL clash Viktoria Plzeň - BATE Borisov and now "only" an EL encounter ...

    Portent of an imminent demotion?

    Kind regards from Vienna,

  57. I'm proud to announce that Croatia will have referee in group stage of Champions League. Marijo Strahonja is appointed in Matchday 4 :))))

  58. Manuel Diaz Vega Dinamo Kyev vs. Besiktas ( Miliorad Mazic ).Mazic-MD 5 CL...;)

  59. UEFA REFEREE OBSERVER Dinamo Kyev vs. Besiktas Manuel Diaz Vega ( ESP )...
    Dr B.

  60. Very nice news.
I had Strahonja in my system for Leverkusen - Genk on MD2, here are some appointments I made for MD 4 (my system, independent from UEFA), some debuts, perhaps I am right:

    ManU-Otelul: Mazic
    Genk-Chelsea: de Sousa
    BATE-Milan: Koukoulakis
    Plzen-Barca: Hategan

Duhamel, well...my suggestion and best solution would probably be (it would be a very radical cut):

OUT: FdB, Busacca, Blom, Duhamel, Meyer
IN: Schörgenhofer, Tagliavento, Gräfe, Clattenburg, Kralovec or Collum.

  61. @ MassRef: I request more straight red cards in football after serious fouls. Well, I agree with you that a yellow card would probably have been enough, but I do not like some members at WR when they say it was a mistake. It was not a mistake, the rule emphasizes the opinion of the referee.

  62. Please remove Gautier from FIFA list

  63. I have not the authority for that :P
the comment's slighty polemic, isn't it?
I know he was not good, nonetheless, he will get more chances.

  64. I want to open a discussion topic on Cakir's performance last night and actually the position in Min39. I watched the whole match, three goals are disalloweded. I believe each of them should be tought at UEFA workshops:

    1. First great flag by Eyisoy to disallow Lyon goal, undoubtfully correct.
    2. Madrid goal is disalloweded in Min69. Whenever Ronalda has shot,Kaka was obviously in offside. He is active and restricting the visual angle of GK. It donest matter whether Kaka has changed the direction of the ball.
3.Most important one: Cakir whistles for free-kick in Min39. Ozil wants the wall, ref. starts to count. Then, Alonso starts the play quickly and score. Cakir gives YC to Alonso and disallows the goal. Are players free to use the kick whenever they want while Ref. is preparing the wall. I really dont think. But I dont the rule very well either.

Real Madrid media attacked the ref. today for these decisions. UEFA ref. committe seems to favor the decisions given. No problem with foul detection(9-9), and cards. I think, that performance was awesome.

Rules book must be opened, I think.

  65. I did not see the match in full length, just in a 45 highlight show.
I will watch it again in full length on the following weekend, then I will evaluate Cakir as well.
What I have seen so far was quite good, both disallowed goals correct. But I doubt that it is something new or different, these situation (Kaka incident) was just clear and obvious. Real Madrid media is attacking every decision made by a referee against them, so I do not pay too much attention to that.

  66. ok, I will make a post about it with screens on tomorrow or on Saturday ;) so save your comments pls, if you post them already now, there is nothing to say then ;)

  67. About your possible prediction to matchday 4 from Portugal just Proença will be in a match for 2/3 November.
With some luck Sousa will get a spot in MD5.

  68. Could anyone explain the penalties for Bilbao? Yesterday Bebek was a shame for UEFA

  69. Mazic-very good performance...

  70. Just published a report for Bas Nijhuis (Olympiakos - Dortmund) at WorldReferee. Based on your system his mark is

    CONTROL 25 %: 7
    CALLS 25 %: 7.5
    NEUTRALITY: 20 %: 8
    STYLE: 20 %: 8
    DIFFICULTY: 10 %: 4

    Final Mark: 7.23

  71. Ok, thanks!
Corresponds to my impressions, Edward. The only difference is perhaps that I think that his approach led to an easy match and therefore good control.

Bebek should be out. I said that a hundred times during the past season and I will not be tired. I cannot understand how many mistakes he will be allowed to make without real consequences.

  72. Edward, I forgot to mention that you forgot to mention that Nijhuis misses a penalty to BVB ;)

  73. IMO there is not a penalty. Very difficult occasion.

  74. Forgot to say that I made my CL appointments for MD 4. I have appointed Strahonja, Studer and Vad. Many brave appointments.

  75. Studer is not ready. I know, he is on FIFA Pre list, but his experience is (like Gautier's) too small and the most important fact is that - in contrast to Gautier - he did not manage to convince 100% during his last matches.
Vad of course, he must get a match, if not, I will not understand the world.

  76. Gautier took 1 match but was not very good. IMO Studer is highly appreciated by UEFA Officials to subtitute Busacca.

  77. Forgot to say.

My info says that at the last meeting held by UEFA Referees Committee they did a first approach to the new categories. Most of the names that will appear at CL are considered for promotion.

  78. Good to hear that, thx.
I decided to update my referee rankings every month now. I will publish the October list in a couple of hours.

  79. there are still some reports I did not get!
I know that most of you published the respective report at WR, would be nonetheless great if you rate the match difficulty here pls.
As soon as we have collected all the reports, I will make pdfs containing them and the results of our appointments.

  80. Kassai
    Control: 7; Calls: 7.5; Neutrality: 8; Style: 7; Diff: 6. Total: 7.23

    Control: 4; Calss: 6; Neutrality: 7; Style: 5; Diff: 6 Total: 5.50

  81. Manuel Gräfe: Dinamo Zagreb-Ajax

    CONTROL 25 %: 8
    CALLS 25 %: 6
    NEUTRALITY: 20 %: 6
    STYLE: 20 %: 8
    DIFFICULTY: 10 %: 4

    Final Mark: 6.70

  82. Thanks, Dino.
I however will not take the 6 for neutrality.
I read your comment about neutrality at WR and watched therefore the match last week.
It is not fair to say that he was not neutral. Of course he was. His shown cards and given free kicks were a reaction to the tough way Dinamo tried to play football. It is therefore 7.1.

I am beginning today with the pdfs, Maicon's report are still missing, Edward, what about FdB's match?

  83. One sentence to Cakir:

There is no need to discuss the offside situations, Emre Eyisoy must see that, especially the disallowed goal in minute 69' is the easiest example for this rule which says that there is an offside situation as soon as a player being in offside influences the behaviour of his opponent. That is no big or great decision, that is everyday work, no doubt about that.
But minute 39. He did not show the whistle and that is his mistake. I did not find anything in the rule book about that, this is a damn issue which causes many many discussions, IFAB should define that clearer soon. To my mind, just my feeling, the yellow card should not have been given as he did not show the whistle. He later told Alonso that he would have showed that but it is wrong. I can understand Real's anger in this situation, but as there is no clear definition...no mistake.

  84. I just downloaded the second half of FDB's match and probably by tomorrow I will publish at WR my report.

  85. Just published a report at WR for FDB. Based on your system his mark is

    CONTROL 25 %: 7.5
    CALLS 25 %: 7.5
    NEUTRALITY: 20 %: 8
    STYLE: 20 %: 8
    DIFFICULTY: 10 %: 7

    Final Mark: 7,65

  86. Michael Koukoulakis has been appointed for a EL MD 4 match.

    Full Greek team.

    Referee: Michael Koukoulakis (GRE)
    Assistants: Dimitrios Saraidaris, Leonidas Vasiliadis
Additional Assistants: Anastasios Kakos, Stavros Tritsonis
    Fourth Official: Anastasios Sidiropoulos

  87. Ok, very nice, thanks a lot Edward!

  88. Edward, I wonder why you did not write anything about the fact that there were 4 (!!) Shakhtar players in the box, namely too early in the penalty situation. The PK should have been repeated.

  89. You are right Niklas. Honestly speaking I had write it in my observations but forgot to add it in my report. The fact is that the mark doesn't change.

  90. Ok, that is good.
Actually, I do not like referees repeating a PK for 5 cm-encroachment like Mrs Melksham did last women world cup, but it was obvious that one of these four Shakhtar defenders who were in the box for a half metre cleared the ball after the save by the goalkeeper, that is perhaps something like passive-> active offside, the player in the box prohibited a renewed goal attempt.

  91. Appoint setting is an arranged meeting between the two peoples. it can be a so useful to save a time for a big companies or firm they always like to meet every people via the arranged meetings. in this type of meeting we can know early the at what time when we have to go and who will meet us.

    appointment setting

  92. Great post!! This can be one particular of the most useful blogs We’ve ever arrive across on this subject. Basically Wonderful. I am also a specialist in this topic so I can understand your hard work.
