  1. The assignment for the Lithuania/Czech match seems to go against protocol. Spain has qualified, but is there a need to put a Spaniard on that match?

I am shocked by the assignments for the Group F matches. Greece and Croatia still have a lot to play for and don't have easy opponents; would have expected bigger referees.

Rizzoli gets what I feel is the biggest assignment, with De Bleeckere getting a close second. Big games also for Moen and Itturalde Gonzalez, amongst others.

  2. Group F...I do not think that the referees play a decisive role in those matches.
Yes, Fernández Borbalán's appointment in Group I is a big surprise.
I would not underestimate the importance of FRA-BIH.

  6. I created a Match Report Kit for every match of Euro 2012. They will be then published on a seperate blog (euro2012stats.blogspot.com).

As test, I did it for GER-BEL. What do you think could I improve? (of course the empty fields have to be filled after the match..).

You can see it by clicking on the Germany-Belgium match in the original post.

  7. On a different subject 2 Spanish referees have been appointed at EL MD 3.

    Full teams here.

    A. A. Adicional 2: CÉSAR MUÑIZ FERNÁNDEZ

Árbitro Asistente 1: RAÚL CABAÑERO MARTÍNEZ
Árbitro Asistente 2: JORGE CANELO PRIETO

  8. thanks, there must be a good reason for UEFA why they appoint Yuste Jiménez and not Teixeira's regular AR2 Cimiano.

  9. but that means something different, too.
Undiano won't get a CL match at MD3 either.
There are only two FIFA referees from Spain remaining if those appointments Edward presented are right: Iturralde and Velasco. I cannot imagine UEFA would either appoint 3 non-fifa add-ass-refs / 4th official for a CL match or appoint Velasco and Iturralde on these positions.
Is Velasco UEFA's no 1, too?

  10. Assistant Referee11/10/11 11:01

Don't forget, it's not UEFA who appoints Assistant referees it's national football federation and it is usual that referee picks his assistant. I guess that Mallenco, Borbalan and Vitienes agreed about assistants and that's why are they appointed as it is.

  11. Nonetheless, it is very unusual that there is no FIFA referee in a CL team apart from ref and assistant refs. Moreover, the new FIFA referee González González is appointed as well, Estrada, too..we have to wait

  12. The appointment Niklas is correct. I found it at the Spsnish Football Federation. I didn't find an appointment for Mallenco.

  13. Ok.
Does someone know the full appointment of DEN-POR? I assume Stefani and Faverani.

  14. Niclas, I have read on worldreferee.com your report about Banari from Moldova for San Marino - Germany under 21.
I haven't watched the game, but I find weird 4 cards for a team winning 8-0! I can guess he gave a card for every foul? Furthermore, in second half, 4 min. as additional time?
This referee was really fussy and your report has confirmed it.

thanks to portuguese football federation webiste

  16. haha, no he did not give cards for fouls.
German players were fouled about 5 times very rudely in the first half, two times, Banari made polemic gestures and shouted something like "STAND UP!!". He thought everything would be a dive, then a German executed a free kick before Banari had whistled, yellow card. 5 minutes later, a German received a tactical foul, he passed a SMR defender and got the ellbow in his chest. AR2 Bodean had clear view, he was about 3 or 4 metres away and did not do anything. Then the German who was fouled stood up and said some words to the AR2, Banari gave yellow. The third yellow was for a dive which was absolutely wrong, it should have been the third penalty. The fourth yellow was ok. The commentator could not stop laughing when Banari did not award a penalty the third time, and I could not either.

This was the worst perfomance I saw since Cha Sung Mi's. You perhaps saw Paul Delgadillo in the u17 match between GER and BFA, he was even a bit better.
Banari is 2nd category, a joke considering the fact that guys like Aytekin, Turpin or Attwell belong to the same category.

  17. Huu, I just checked the standings in Group C..if Serbia does not manage to WIN, Estonia will join the play-offs. Imagine there would be Estonia, Montenegro and Armenia in the playoffs. Crazy world of football at the moment..

  18. Interesting. Thanks for your explanation, Niclas. I don't know what UEFA wants to do with this kind of referees (from country like Moldova, Latvia, and so on). Banari, 36 years old, is a FIFA ref from 2003, he whistled many matches (even though not so important ones).
Instead, we could do a different speech for Hannes Kaasik, or Gediminas Mazeika, even though from countries like Estonia and Lithuania, they seem to be appreciated by UEFA. And they are having a clear growth path (regular appointments).

  19. Nicola Rizzoli full appointment:

    Nicola Rizzoli

    1 Luca Maggiani
    2 Andrea Stefani

    Fourth: Andrea De Marco

    Observer: Josef Krula (CZE)
    Delegate: Nebojse Ivkovic (SRB)

  20. thanks! Interesting to see that they appointed Maggiani.
I totally agree with you. There a few names one should keep an eye on who come from this area:
Mazeika, Kaasik, Kuchin, Salmanov, Aleckovic, Todorov, Hategan (!!)..

There is one aspect which shocked me most yesterday and that was his way of "respecting players", it finally did not exist.

  21. do you have the French appointments, too?

    This is my prediction:

    CRO - LVA
Gautier - Annonier, Cano (or Pottier) - Thual

Chapron - Boisdenghien, Harchay - Turpin

  22. Macédoine - Slovaquie

    Central : Tony Chapron
Assistants : Emmanuel Boisdenghien et Fredji Harchay
    4ème officiel : Fredy Fautrel

    Croatie - Lettonie

    Central : Antony Gautier
Assistants : Michael Annonier et Frédéric Cano
    4ème officiel : Saïd Ennjimi

  23. FULL REPORT (FR) for Germany vs Belgium:

  24. Last match and full appointment

    Group G, Sofia, 20:05
    Bulgaria - Wales
    Referee Pawel Gil (POL)
Assistant Referee 1: Piotr Sadczuk (POL)
Assistant Referee 2: Marcin Borkowski (POL)
    4th Official: Marcin Borski (POL)

On last night matches Orsato at Tbilisi was almost excellent. Very smart referee, he intervene at the game when needed and all of his cards were correct. Both his assistants had excellent calls.

  25. Nice to hear that, thanks.

  26. Just published a full report on Orsato at worldreferee.com.

  27. I have already read it.
Orsato seems to have been very good, nonetheless I think there is no need to promote him. I do not see tough matches assigned to him in EL, de Marco and Banti are probably higher regarded.

  28. De Marco is second Category and Banti is 1 year older than Orsato. As i wrote at my report he is inexperienced but a very good referee.

  29. Ok, that is right.
I assume Valeri is under special observation, like Aytekin or Mateu Lahoz.
Orsato could be an option for ED soon, but I think there are other ones who show good perfomances for a longer time and should be promoted first (Vad, Nijhuis, de Sousa, Koukoulakis, Mazic, Stavrev etc etc).

  30. I agree on most names but not on two: Mazic and Stavrev. Mazic especially after Paok - Tottenham and his mistakes (Bo Karlsson the Observer) seems to have missed UEFA trust.

  31. hm if it was like that, why did they appoint him for the BEL-KAZ match? By the way, his perfomance in this important match was superb.Stavrev and Mazic did not show the best perfomances I agree, perhaps they are not ready.
I naturally forgot two names, Strömbergsson and Hategan. Todorov could be an option, too, what about Kulbakow? Did not receive good matches in the past.

  32. Kulbakov is born in 1979 so he has future. But he is from a small country (Belarus) so it is difficult for ED. The championship there is not considered high level so he can't receive many appointments. For Hategan I agree and Todorov too.

  33. Iturralde report:

look at the comments of the angry Armenians..

  34. Bo Karlsson after the match in Thessaloniki was pleased.A whether UEFA counts on Mazic but we'll see in a week ...:) I made an analysis of the game ( Niclas has read ), and I ask " Edward " to pay attention to Law 14 and the part that refers to the procedure of taking a penalty kick.

  35. Rene H.J. Temmink-observer BEL-KAH(Milorad Mazic)- TRIAL OF RECOMMENDATIONS...

  36. Yeap, was a good analysis.
Did not see the match, hence I cannot say anything on this specific match.

  37. For Mazic, my objection for this match is the penalty he didn't gave Tottenham and not the goal he dissalowed for PAOK. It was a clear penalty.

On a different subject Robert Schorgenhofer is appointed for a CL game at MD 4.

  38. Nice to hear that and I can publish what Edward just found out: Undiano and Velasco will get a CL MD 4 appointment.

  39. 1) Paok FC - Tottenham: Milorad Mazic (SRB): Mr Mazic was dreadful yesterday. He did everything wrong. He denied a more than clear penalty for Tottenham and he gave Paok a correct penalty BUT he dissalowed the goal because another player of Paok entered the Box. The problem with that was that Tottehnam's GK Cudicini moved forward during the shot so with 2 offences it was either a goal or a replay.
This is the last sentence, which is not in accordance with Law 14!
I have read all sorts of comments regarding PAOK-Spurs game, and how can I have any kind of dialogue with a certain " Edward from Greece " who does not know the Law 14? He claims that referee Mazic should have repeated the penalty kick the second time as well, because Cudicini was on the move. In case if the goalkeeper starts moving forward before the ball is in play, the penalty kick is repeated ONLY AND ONLY IF THE GOALKEEPER SAVES THE GOAL SHOT. The PAOK player had missed the entire goal.
Edward,on Tuesday we will know, is Mr.. Mazic punished for Thessaloniki, or try a very interesting game! I'm just guessing ... Let's wait!

  40. Page 44 FIFA Laws of the Game:

    LAW 14 Infringements and sanctions:
a team-mate of the player taking the kick infringes the Laws of the Game:
    • the referee allows the kick to be taken
    • if the ball enters the goal, the kick is retaken
    • if the ball does not enter the goal, the referee stops play and the match is
restarted with an indirect free kick to the defending team from the place
    where the infringement occurred

I can only imagine the situation with the aid of your descriptions as there is no youtube video for this match, hence Mazic was absolutely right.

  41. On the second occasion he was right when the player lost the penalty and award a goal-kick. But on the first time the penalty was taken? Why did he disallowed the goal? There is my objection. At this case we had 2 Infringements: A player of Paok entering the "box" and Cudicini on the move. What the referee award in this occasion. Replay or Goal and why? Since I don't know Law 14.

  42. Another info: Anastasios Kakos (GRE) is appointed for a EL MD 3.

    Full Greek Team.

    Referee: Anastasios Kakos (GRE)|
Assistants: Dimitrios Bozatzidis (GRE), Christos Akrivos (GRE)
Additional Assistants: Michael Koukoulakis (GRE), Stavros Tritsonis (GRE)
    Fourth Official: Ilias Spathas (GRE)

I have the feeling that Michael Koukoulakis will be appointed for a EL MD 4. But we will know in a few days.

  43. I think that is even sure. There is always the change between Koukoulakis and Kakkos (main ref <-> add-ass-ref1).
Back to the situation in PAOK-TOT: Has anyone a good video showing the incident? I did not find anything.
By the way, I made my CL appointments and assigned Studer and Strömbergsson. You have still 11 hours time to send me your appointments!
