  1. Anonymous10/6/12 10:55

What do you think which observers will observe this matches?

  2. My guesses are:
    Stark: Elleray
    Lannoy: Karlsson
    Thomson: Collina
    Eriksson: Batta

  3. Anonymous10/6/12 11:33

    Is Proenca injured?

    1. Of course, no!
I think that he is kept safe, and his first match will be in the second matchday in group C or D.

    2. Anonymous10/6/12 12:07

It never happend in the recent history (2008, 2004, 2000) that the first 12 matches of the EURO weren't refereed by the twelve selected officials.

  4. Anonymous10/6/12 11:33

Is on this Euro 2012 Vlado Šajn as observer?

    1. I knew I forgot an observer. Of course he should be, then he should be considered for group B perhaps, too.

  5. On UEFA.com say that observers are:
    Lannoy - Karlsson
    Stark - Dallas
    Thomson - Uilenberg
    Eriksson - Batta

  6. Where did u get the info on uefa.com I can't find it

    1. When you open uefa.com, go on TOURNAMENT, than on BY ROUND. Klick on match you want, and you will have option OFFICIALS. Klick on that and you have referees, delegates and observers.

      ex: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/season=2012/matches/round=15172/match=2003328/prematch/officials/index.html

  7. Jair Marrufo with heavy work in the friendly Brazil - Argentina (3-4) Lavezzi and Marcelo were sent off.

  9. Kassai's performance is really difficult to evaluate. Sometimes I think he really must give a card and then I am again thrilled by his line, by his individual style and worldclass. But some mistakes were apparent, the draw is deserved to my mind. Ring with an excellent performance, but, I have noticed an overseen violent conduct in minute 48. (Busquets on Motta)

    1. The fact with Kassai is that he is aware when he doesn't give cards, this is his style, of course he doesn't consider as mistake what he does, he tries to handle the match without disciplinary measures if possible and he is really able to be accepted by players. In the last part of the game this evening he was excellent, I share your doubts, Niclas in how to evaluate him, and I have understood what are you thinking about.

    2. In my opinion, the masterclass by Kassai. Of course, three missed yellows to De Rossi (11' - tactical foul, used an advantage really great, but should have booked Italian for that), Cassano (32' - foul on Neuer) and Arbeloa (58' - tactical foul). I reviewed it and I think there were really obvious cards, only Kassai knows why he didn't show a yellows in those situations. Violent conduct - I agree, possible red card to Busquets, but take a look on both referees, they could have not seen it. Maybe 4th official, but who knows. I think it can't be evaluate as a referees' mistake, but UEFA should punish Busquets for a one match I think. However, as I mentioned, masterclass by Kassai in foul detection (especially Balotelli-Pique situation from 34') All (non-)whistles were correct - amazing! All 7 cards were correct, missed 3 quite obvious. His presence, style, control were absolutely brilliant to my mind.

      Kind regards from Poland!

    3. Foul on Casillas of course :D

    4. The point is about missed yellow cards: Yun Hyeon, in your opinion, how we should evaluate that in a report?
Viktor Kassai is sure of his decisions and even though the mistakes appear so clear, he is able to handle the match and being a boss on the pitch with a fascinatining control and leadership.

    5. Kassai after his SF at the WC 2010 is very respected by most of the players. He chose not to give cards because he knows that players respect him. IMO he has a lenient style but until now it has worked well for him. His second half was much better than the first one and moreover he was really close to see that there wasn't a penalty for Balloteli.

    6. Chefren, I think those missed yellow cards were relly obvious, so a mistake - one point lower in evaluation. Seven yellow cards brilliantly showed, especially to Chiellini and Balotelli when Kassai counted their fouls - one and half point more. I think in report his mark should become higher even in calls field due to his perfect (no mistake!) in foul detection and brilliant from one side and 3 mistakes from second side card management. Of course, marks for control and style should be very very high, in my opinion.

    7. I agree, thank you for your opinion.
The pity is that with a so good control and style, one would try to think that he was perfect also about the calls and decisions. But finally, nobody is perfect, so it's right what you said.
Meanwhile, another intensive match for our friend Neant Alioum.
Guiena - Egypt 1-2 with two penalties and a straight red card.
      Waiting for the highlights.

    8. It's a disgrace to see Alioum in such good match after his terrible performance in last matchday. CAF clearly push him. However, they changed Francis Bamock by Yanoussa Moussa.

    9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMjoaEN23cs

Take a look at Guinea keeper!
He was a fool or something like that!
Unacceptable behavior, clear red card and 5 matches ban, at least.

    10. Good decision. I am a bit surprised Alioum detected that ;) Ban should be long...

  10. I will upload all the reports tomorrow.
    Marks are:
    Lannoy 78,0 (Chefren)
    Skomina 71,0 (Pascal)

  11. http://www.marca.com/2012/06/10/futbol/eurocopa_2012/1339337891.html

    An inteersting article about Carballo.

    1. Yes, Carballo was very good (not style and control but calls) by 'only' 55 minutes. He absolutely failed a first part of first half (even a bit more). It's a pity that head of referees sees same positives in Carballo's performance. However, I think, he deserved a second match in a group fase and, if that will be excellent, another match in knock-out stage.

  13. A controversial goal now scored by Croatia, it seemed offside.
    What do you think?

  14. Played by an Irish player. No offside. Correct goal.

  15. Penalty not given now to Ireland, clear in my opinion.

    1. I agree Chefren. It is a penalty. As for the Croatian second goal I think it is offside because the Irish player after the first shot is not in possession of the ball.

    2. I don't agree, he is in possession! I think it's clear a new situation, the Irish player wants to kick the ball away but he touch it wrong.

I agree with the penalty situation.

    3. Anonymous10/6/12 23:45

      Offside !

  16. Netherlands vs Denmark by Pascal: http://s14.directupload.net/images/120610/c5ju3ff5.pdf

The Germany vs Prtugal report by Chefren in a few minutes!

    1. You Wellcome Chefren :)
Here you are Germany vs Portugal:
Or in Ref Marks if you want to give your marks too!

    2. The is a mistake going to change the archive if you agree Chefren, FRA and no ENG :) by the referees

    3. http://s7.directupload.net/images/120610/yejai2f7.pdf

    4. I agree, terrible mistake, I didn't notice it.
      You can change it

    5. Thanks, Carlos!

    6. No problem at all! Thank you for doing the report ;)

    7. The reports are not ready!! Mistakes in the evaluation are not corrected, this was the reason for not having uploaded it..

  17. Good performance of Kuipers tonight! 2nd goal spot on, Irish player kicked the ball so he can never be offside! Great assistants!
All cards correct, the only questionable moment is the penalty in the second half. I think you can give it..

  18. I read at Ratetheref that William Collum (SCO) has been promoted to the Elite Category for the First half of the season 2012-2013. Does anyone know more?

    1. Would not be justified in my opinion o.o

I do not agree that Kuipers has shown a good performance, to my mind it was the worst so far due to several reasons.

Good line (at first lenient, consistent booking if necessary)
Good application of the advantage rule
      Good, clear and respectful signals

1-2 (no offside in general, but the action starts before. Why has the other Irish defender to defend the ball after the shot from 25 m-distance? Because he knew that someone was behind him: a Croatian striker in offside position so that I think that this action - before the other Irish player made this stupid action - was influenced by a player first being in passive offside and then in active. So I think the situation should be considered earlier. The last action was clearly onside, but the first not. Can you follow me??)

      Penalty missed.

Allowed many clear fouls committed by striker (ellbow against goalkeeper Pletikosa (Liesveld ignored that))

Must send off Krancjar in 85', studs up foul, 2nd YC should have been the logical consequence.

There was a situation when two players ran for the ball with high pace and studs up. Only the Croatian player had his studs up, not the Irish. The Croatian fell, Kuipers gave free kick to CRO.

      Control (20%): 70,0
Decisions (40%): 60,0 (one clear important mistake, otherwise in the area of 70,0-79,0)
Style (30%): not the best movement, a bit lazy in the pitch, but clear approach and good level with players: 70,0
      Difficulty (10%): 70,0

  19. Observer appointments matches 9-12

GREECE - CZECH REPUBLIC (Lannoy): Pascal J (SUI)
POLAND - RUSSIA (Stark): Chefren (ITA)
DENMARK - PORTUGAL (Thomson): Maicon O (BRA), Carlos S (COL)
NETHERLANDS - GERMANY (Eriksson): Cagatay I (TUR)

  20. Reports are now available on the match files page.

    1. Very good report, I agree.
You forgot the "X" on the table DECISIONS of Gyorgy Ring :)

    2. I have added them, thanks ;)
The news about Collum is true.

  21. Not the best Rizzoli... Many problems in foul detection and cards management. However, very good control (sometimes more cards were needed) and style (gestures, many public warnings, but approach to let the game flow so much was poor for this match). Overall, a mixed bag showed by Rizzoli.

  22. Rizzoli and his team with too many little mistakes (offside, throw-in, fouls) today, maybe a bit pro France. However, he kept the control, so still a decent performance

  23. He always had control. He missed some cards in my opinion and I don't disagree about his approach to the game. If he had given every foul we would have a game with over 60 fouls and no rhythm. His assistants (except 1 occasion were excellent). More on my report.

  24. From an itaian point of view: I agree with Edward, he had a full control, but I have to be honest and Philipp with Yun Hyeon are saying right things too.
He missed some fouls, the card management was acceptable but not the best possible, anyway the match was really, really boring.
He had almost nothing to do. Some little mistakes also by Stefani and Faverani, a missed corner for France, anyway the most of offside calls were correct, and often difficult.
Furthermore, in a situation Rizzoli did the same thing of Lannoy yesterday: he missed a clear advantage, without giving the card.
But let me say again that the match was terrible to watch, I was going to sleep.
France and England were really afraid to play.

    1. The match was really boring. Rizzoli was probably bored as well. To be honest it was the worst of his 3 matches I have seen this year but still acceptable. Those 2 teams were concentrating more on their defense and to tackle the opponent than playing football.

  25. Çakır was excellent, maybe I'm a fan of this referee, but it's always a safe bet.

    1. To me he wasn't challenged much but his performance was OK. Maybe two cards missed and 1-2 mistakes in foul detection. It's difficult to evaluate him, but I am surely not so impressed like you :)

    2. Anonymous12/6/12 13:29

the Turk is a nice, quiet understated man on the field, no charisma.

  26. I found Rizolli not so good... He tried to play so many unnecessary advantage, missed some brutal fouls, YCs... He aimed to bring pace to game while neglecting to call. That wasnt a fair management. Control was ok, no problem.

Çakır was really good, same criterion to both teams. Sometimes, he was too much there. Sometimes tried to be invisible. Calm, reliable, waiting for a higher profile game next

  27. Rizzoli in my opinion not ready for the final, you are right.
    Cakir very good.

  28. Italy - Croatia Howard Webb (Kralovec)
Spain - Ireland Pedro Proença (Borski)
Ukraine - France Bjorn Kuipers (Hagen)
Sweden - England Damir Skomina (Meyer)

I'm not happy with Webb and I think that for Kuipers it will be his last match.
Still no Carballo his mistake was heavy.

  29. Anonymous12/6/12 13:20

To be honest, Kuipers made bigger mistake than Carballo but he got second match !!, Kuipers didn't whistle penalty for Ireland, and it was clear penalty on Keane, but again that second Croatian goal was great call, it was not offside. We'll see what about Kuipers after Ukraine-France, it's too early to say that they will send Kuipers home.

    1. We can discuss about that difference of mistakes between Carballo and Kuipers.
One thing is to show a totally invented card (because the first for Papastathopolous was for sure without a reason) and another thing is to miss a penalty, maybe you can consider it as a slight contact or you can have a not good view.
Yes, both are mistakes, but in my opinion the first is bigger because it caused also the sending off in first half, of course not deserved by the greek player.
Anyway, UEFA is not punishing so much referees for (possible) mistakes, now we have Skomina again, and in my opionion that's good because that handball wasn't a penalty.

    2. Everyone will get two matches, I am convinced. I think the last appts are then more easily to guess than before:

      GRE-RUS: Thomson (SCO)
      POL-CZE: Rizzoli (ITA)
      DEN-GER: Velasco Carballo (ESP)
      NED-POR: Cakir (TUR)
      ITA-IRL: Eriksson (SWE)
      CRO-ESP: Stark (GER)
      UKR-ENG: Proenca (POR)
      SWE-FRA: Kassai (HUN)

  30. Anonymous12/6/12 13:30

Skomina seems to be stuck with English team and clubs this season. Quite "low profile" match for Proenca.

  33. No spams please. Ask via mail that I put that link on my blog list.

Blom out of Elite, Vad in ED, Schörgenhofer and Kelly out of ED. See respective thread.

  34. Observer appointments:
    ITALY-CROATIA (Webb): Philipp S (GER)
    SPAIN-IRELAND (Proenca): Mohammed A (EGY)
    UKRAINE-FRANCE (Kuipers): Niclas E (GER)
    SWEDEN-ENGLAND (Skomina): Sander (NED)

    1. Niclas, I know that you are going to send it, but I want to rememeber that I'm waiting for the pdf of Poland-Russia.

    2. Yes, I have uploaded the reports of yesterday and Sunday, now it is time for the next templates.
Reports are hence available on Match Files page.

  35. Good first half by Lannoy and team. No noteworthy mistakes. Goal by Fotakis correctly annulled for offside (great call by Frédéric Cano).

    1. http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/2919/hrtmd7vr_jpg.htm

      It seems a superb call.

    2. Are you sure, Chefren, the leg of Czech player is not on one level with Greek's leg?

  36. My estimation is that Frederic Cano made a great call. The Greek's player body and head seems to be ahead from the defence.

    1. This was my impression, too, and I really think we should again apply the principle of "benefit of the doubt". Annonier with one wrong offside call.

    2. And concerning Lannoy: a typical Lannoy match, like in Lviv..good in the major calls, several crudities in the smaller ones (e.g. the alleged striker-foul at 90+2:40'. It was more a penalty than a foul by the Greek.
      Yellows correct, missed perhaps one.

  37. Lannoy with his style. Some really good calls, some wrong, visible weaknesses. My feeling is he's really upset in every Euro match. As we all know, high-pressure matches are not for him. However, overall still good performance (I am surprised :)). Cano with three outstanding calls (I suppose, it was minimal offside by head of Greek player). Annonier with one mistake. AARs not challenged.
My mark is again 6,6, indicating good/very good performance.
    Cano - 9,5 (fantastic / ideal)
    Annonier - 6,5 (good / very good)
    Fautrel - 7,0 (very good)
    Buquet - 7,0 (very good)

Stark with very good performance, as always. His style and control are always the same and are excellent in my opinion. Calls were not always the best. I can't, to the hell, understand why didn't he (in cooperation with Aytekin) give an indirect free kick to Russian team in 20th minute. Also, some other mistakes like free kick after alleged Dzagoyev foul on Polish defender (45+1'). However, some fantastic calls and my impression is rather positive.
Salver with correct but obvious offside call in disallowed Polish goal situation (18') and missed foot-up/high-leg tackle by 12RUS (83'). Pickel faultess, but also not challenged much.
My mark is 7,1, indicating very good performance.
    Stark - 7,1 (very good)
    Salver - 7,5 (very good / excellent)
    Pickel - 7,0 (very good)
    Meyer - 7,0 (very good)
    Aytekin - 4,0 (weak)

    Kind regards from Poland!

  38. Anonymous13/6/12 03:39

just a little remark in general -
indirect free kicks seem to be s.th. unknown, especially for dangerous play and blocks w.o. chance of ball possession - why? Especially the 20th min. /RUS-POL is an excellent example, the UEFA should take more care of that.
and why do so many referees ignore ellbow-checks in headballs (f.e. Lannoy, often, but even most of the others!) which were considered to be even YC in the World Cup 2010? Those fouls are getting a new old plague more and more...
I really pray to god that Carballo V. isn`t appointed for the German match, the list of catastrophes caused by Spanish referees in Germen matches is long enough!!!
    Best wishes from Munich! Andy

  39. In general you are even right..Lopez Nieto in CMR-GER 2002, Mejuto in 2008, Undiano in 2010 and perhaps now Velasco in 2012. I would also prefer someone else, but not due to this statistic..I would be happy with Kassai or Rizzoli.

    My marks for Stark:

    Control (20%): 90,0
Decisions (40%): 82,0 (good not to whistle the penalty in 11', good cards, good presence. The high leg obviously missed. Smaller mistakes every now and then.
Style (30%): demanded respect, consistently punished the protest. Tactical approach was clear, first lenient, later, when necessary, stricter. Fitness good, movement as well. Could be more friendly on the pitch. 80,0
Difficulty/Importance (10%): 80,0 (intense match, with few bigger calls to make)

    82,8 = 83,0 = very good performance.

AR1 Salver: Difficulty: 85,0, Decisions 90,0 (one foul exaggeratedly awarded), Style: 65,0 (weird flag technique): 84,0

    AR2 Pickel: Difficulty: 75,0, Decisions 90,0, Style: 80,0 = 85,0

    AAR1 Meyer: Difficulty 60,0, Decisions 80,0, Style 75,0 = 75,0
AAR2 Aytekin: brilliant in two calls (no penalty, important one!, and a striker foul correctly whistled. It seemed the other way round, but replays indicates that he was right. Should have advised Stark to award an indirect free kick, even though Stark was able to see that himself, too, so that it was probably a corporable decision): Difficulty 90,0, Decisions 72,0, Style 75,0 = 76,2

    4th Jug: 75,0

    1. I agree with most of your words.
By the way I have sent my report, can you read it?
I'm sorry, I wasn't able to put the flags.
If you can fix it, I thank you.
      Fourth offical was Vad...

    2. Yes, Niclas, I forgot mention that penalty situation. Really good one.

There were (in this tournament) 3-4 situations where indirect free kick in the penalty area must have been given... Why referees haven't a courage to whistle it, while in the other field-zones they whistle it without a problem?

Overall, I am not impressed by level of refereeing at this tournament. Too many inconsistencies, too many referees' styles, without one way of refereeing, finally too many mistakes. What is your opinion in this field?

    3. I think that we see overall satisfying referee performances, not at the highest level, but on a good level to my mind.
In certain situations, there should be ONE consistent application of the rules, the rest is interpretation and as I wrote in the new post, I appreciate different styles. I think we need them, we do not need equal and identical robots.

Jug was 4th official in match Greece-Czech Republic . In this match was 4th official Istvan Vad

    5. Yes, Chefren told me, too. Have mixed it up.

  40. Full agree, Niclas, it's problem in many situations, which referees differently evaluate. I also wouldn't like to 'identical robots', it's beauty of football - different styles of play, different tactics, different cultures and finally different referees' styles. And I would ask for respecting Collina's words by referees. Is high-leg tackle dangerous to player's health? Of course! So, let referees have a courage and whistle those tackles, pls.

    1. I am sure that this issue will be on the agenda of instructions in the course of the tournament. At least Skomina and Stark have missed this sort of foul.

    2. I am not so sure, but I still hope :) Did you see an indirect free kick in the penalty area last time? Me not. Maybe instructions are different?

    3. He touched him, for this reason probably more likely a PK instead of an ind. free kick.

  41. Respect, Mr Thomson. Excellent performance in my opinion.

    1. Second best performance at this EURO. Kassai will be still n1 due to match difficulty, but Thomson was excellent too, especially in the great calm and tactical approach to this match. Agree, respect!

  42. Second best performance at this EURO. Kassai will be still n1 due to match difficulty, but Thomson was excellent too, especially in the great calm and tactical approach to this match. Agree, respect!

  43. Yes Thomson was very good. He seems to be at his top form now. I guess the most difficult thing for the Committee will be to decide which referees they will keep and not.

  44. I agree that it was a very composed performance by Thomson with an excellent approach to the match. But maybe we should nonetheless discuss the Meireles handball in 29th min: DOGSO?

    1. I believe the distance to goal part wasn't there.

    2. The striker has to be in full control of the ball. One can argue that the ball would have been excellent for the striker, I think, a red card was possible, a yellow to my mind still ok.
Thomson with one mistake when he wrongly whistled a free kick after an alleged foul on Ronaldo (close to goal, before CR7-theatre-free kick). The rest was between very good in excellent and especially Ross was very good. Ok, we have to keep in mind that there were not that many challenges like in other matches.

  45. What a difficult match to Eriksson's assistants. Many (non-)offsides calls, which were on the borderline. Overall, very good first half.

  46. OMG, how difficult to evaluate Eriksson performance... I think there should have been penalty to Netherlands after Lahm foul on van Persie (65'). On the other hand, two excellent non-penalty calls after clear tackle by de Jong (76') and clear tacle by Hummels (79'). Another controversial situation is missed (it's for sure) punch/push made by Huntelaar on Schweinsteiger (82'). In this situation, the yellow card is the minimum. Overall, very good referee performance (sometimes even fantastic). Also Stefan Wittberg and Matthias Klasenius were near fantastic level. Wittberg with high number of (non-)offside calls - all were PERFECT and one mistake, when didn't give the corner kick to Germans. Klasenius faultless with many difficult situations too. Strömbergsson with excellent call in de Jong clear tackle, Johannesson probably without involvement in Lahm-van Persie situation and impossible to evaluate is his involvement in Hummels-van Persie situation (I think Eriksson saw it better).

    Eriksson - 7,4 (very good)
    Wittberg - 8,5 (excellent/fantastic)
    Klasenius - 8,5 (excellent/fantastic)
    Strömbergsson - 8,5 (excellent/fantastic)
    Johannesson - 7,0 (very good)

  47. I agree with your assessments Yun Hyeon, however I have doubts about the Lahm-van Persie duel, I think that no penalty is a correct decision. Assistant referees indeed very good.

And Webb? Hard to evaluate in my opinion. A bit fussy every now and then, good in the rest of the match. A still good performance in my opinion, Kirkup with at least one wrong offside call.

  48. So happy the shop is open!! Got some lovely things that sound great-thanks so much!
