Eric Otogo-Castane gets Third Place match

Having obviously followed the performance principle, Africa's football federation CAF has appointed Eric Otogo-Castane of Gabon to take charge of tomorrow's Africa Cup of Nations Third Place match between Ghana and Mali.

1976 born Otogo-Castane, who already oversaw Zambia - Ethiopia and Côte d'Ivoire - Algeria in group stage, has been one of the most convincing officials of the tournament thus far. He will be assisted by Cameroon's Evarist Menkouande and Aden Marwa Range of Kenya. Zambian Janny Sikazwe completes the team as fourth official.

  1. An appointment that makes sense, and it was my prediction.
If the rumours about Haimoudi for the final will be confirmed, let me say that El Ahrach deserved something more.

  2. At least the chances of Redouane Achik to be involved in the final are now high. I would say he is Africa's AR no.3. Menkouande now in the final would allow a mixture of Achik and Birumushahu or Camara e.g. I do not think that Hassani gets the final though.

My decision if I had to decide would be: El Ahrach - Achik, Birumushahu - Alioum

  3. It seems that Sim Jedidi has recognized his mistake in the report, so now CAF has annulled the red card to Pitroipa.
    He will play the final..

  4. Hayatou also said that Jedidi wrote a letter to the general secretary admitting his error. Good for Pitroipa.

    1. By the way, it seems a very particular case, never happened in the history of football.
The report of a referee cannot be changed, of course.
If the committee recognizes a mistake, they can act on their own initiative, taking the correct decisions about the suspensions of the players due to the cards received. I have never heard that a referee admits his mistake for a foul which is absolutely included in his discretion.
I could have accepted this situation, for example, if the referee had booked a wrong player, but here, he has to change an absolutely "normal" decision. Of course with "normal" I mean a technical decision taken into the pitch. What he is going to write in the report?
"I have booked twice the player but the second card is wrong, I recognize the mistake" or maybe he is going to omit totally the episode in his report?
Very strange, but at the end who cares?
Too many questions, the only important thing is that Pitroipa can play the final.

    2. But remember Stark having done the same after Dortmund-Wolfsburg and the wrong sending-off to Schmelzer. And in this particular case, I could also imagine that the observer and committee "kindly asked" Jedidi to admit his mistake in the report.

  5. official: Djamel Haimoudi gets match African Nations Cup final, which combines Nigeria and Burkina Faso on Sunday, offering Haimoudi lead one to judge Moroccan international Bouchaib Horsh after evaluation by the jury of the adequate performance of the rulers of the session, and will be accompanied by Assistant Referee Moroccan Radwan achik.

    1. Thanks for this provision of info. El Ahrach deserved more..
