According to an official document from UEFA dated July 1st there has been a removal from the UEFA Referee's Committee.
Former World Cup and Euro 2008 Referee Kyros Vassaras of Greece has been removed. The owner of a travel agency in Piraeus started his duties in the Committee in 2009 and was mainly responsible for refereeing at UEFA's youth tournaments (U19 / U17).
There has not been an announcement from UEFA for the matter but as it was reported for several months in Greece, the reason for this removal was a submitted request by the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) to UEFA.
The reason for that request is that Kyros Vassaras was a member of the Greek Refereeing Committee from 2010 until November 2012. In August 2012 he submitted a letter to the board of the HFF challenging and criticizing the procedure of the formation for the Greek Refereeing Lists in both Superleague and Football league. That letter was used by a member of the board to make allegations about corrupted referee promotions on these lists so that Greek bodies of justice have looked into the matter and have already called and heard several witnesses.
The Third Team wishes Kyros Vassaras all the best and hopes that his work at UEFA will be successfully continued, considering his high appreciation among young UEFA referees.
