 What you should know

After having attended many many youth tournaments (see above) and been pre-selected for the last World Cup, this year's EURO is the first final tournament for Královec at men's level - with one exception: In 2012, he joined the Olympic Games and even handled a semifinal.

Although he only became Elite three years ago, he is already international for more than eleven years now!

Královec is heading one of two mixed teams at the EURO: The Czech match officials are accompanied by Roman Slyško of Slovakia, a veteran FIFA Assistant Referee with much international experience at Luboš Michel's side (e.g. at FIFA World Cup 2006 or UEFA EURO 2008). Unfortunately, Královec' Assistant Referee 2 Martin Wilczek has failed the fitness tests and is therefore replaced by Tomaš Mokrusch.

Refereeing Style

Decision-Taker. Pavel Královec concentrates on applying and interpreting the Laws of the Game and is not the most charismatic game-manager and does not have a natural authority à la Eriksson. He is an absolutely solid referee who has already convinced in bigger games. His style might suit to matches between a bigger and a smaller team, where both intense conflicts or a heated temperature are not expected and solid refereeing is needed - his problem: In the past, he simply made too many crucial mistakes.

His signs of recognition. 1) His whistle: Acme Tornado - terrible, high and tinny sound which does not really boost its user's authority. 2) His mimic when he takes decisions that have to be taken (see the pic below).

His Strengths*

1| Firmness in taking decisions.
2| Player Management, Communication, Verbal Warnings.
3| Co-operation with assistant referees.
4| Fitness, Stamina, Positioning and Movement.
5| Careful and consistent application of the Laws of the Game.

His Points for Improvement*

1| Black or white decisions (too many crucial mistakes).
2| Lacks of concentration and alertness.
3| Lacks concerning disciplinary control.
4| Whistle Language
5| Always expect the unexpected!

Chances at EURO 2016

They are not as high as one could have thought some months ago. Královec lost a very valuable teammember - his new Assistant Referee has almost no international experience. Additionally, he has to avoid further crucial mistakes. If he manages that, solid refereeing can be expected - and maybe even an appearance in the Round of 16.
