  8. Another great appointment for Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea. A title-deciding match. Congratulations to him and also to Hernández Hernández!

    1. Yes, very important game. You know, everything depends on Real Madrid's matches now for the title. Now it is even clearer that he will join FIFA list in 2018 replacing Clos Gómez.
It seems as Alejandro José Hernández Hernández had a very good season as well. Always appointed for crucial games.

  9. In FIFA U20 we will have appointed:
Referee, AR1, AR2, 4th official, VAR1, VAR2, Assistant VAR. Go on fifa web on any match and you will see. I would expect at least one assistant referee from every confederation to be appointed as AR VAR. I really cant wait to see appointments to see how will it work.

    1. Very interesting remark, thanks.
It seems an excellent idea by FIFA to appoint an assistant referee as third VAR official, he can give his immediate opinion about difficult offside situations.

  11. Sweden. The red team made an appeal after the match that the red card should not stand. The ref refused to change his mind and the federation agrees. The player got a 2 match suspension.

    Two situations:

1)1:16:38-Potential red card,no intention to play the ball?

2)1:56:00-Two player's(none of them scored goal) are taking their shirt off to clear cards.

What do you think about this comical situation?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1) Clear RC in my opinion, you said the reason: no chance to play the ball and the player committing this foul was aware. He just wanted to hit the opponent. Even though the challenge is not so much harsh, one could go for RC, it wouldn't be wrong. At the time, however, I think YC is a supportable choice (tactical foul).
      2) Referee is forced to book them, then if federation wants, they can start an investigation against this behavior. You know how much UEFA disciplinary committee is strict on that.

  13. Did Martinez Munuera miss a penalty for handball at 37', I tend more to yes...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My first reaction was no penalty (arm looked to be in natural position and not seeking for a ball) but after the replays it looks more that there was an arm movement towards the ball and after there was contact made defender pulled his arm away. Penalty and no card. But definitely very difficult to detect from the angle Martinez had...

  14. Martinez Munuera has tough match and he made some questionable calls, especially Aspas sending off.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. About that situation, I think that his match preparation has made him make that mistake. Iago Aspas usually simulates, and probably he knew that. However, tonight that decision was wrong. Difficult match. On the handball, I think it was outside the penalty area. But, for me, it was deliberate. Not the best of the performances tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gräfe appointed for HSV-Wolfsburg doesn't seem very sensible by the German FA. The media is already going crazy about that appointment before the game.

Background: Gräfe was the referee in the relegation playoffs 2015 Karlsruhe-HSV, where a questionable freekick in the 90th minute decided the game in favour of Hamburg. The decision was a more or less 50/50 hand call, but the German media slaughtered him after that game. Gräfe keeping Hamburg in the Bundesliga still is a popular meme in social media.

The thing is, every other referee that is capable of such an appointment is not available:
-Brych and Aytekin shouldn't get such an explosive match just before their finals
-same for Stark in the last game of his career
    -Stieler is from Hamburg
    -Zwayer at U20 World Cup
    -Drees is injured

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't see the problem in appointing Stark as last match of his career, what about Fritz?

      Delete
    2. This is maybe the most important match of the season (at least in terms of its decisive character), imagine that Stark makes a crucial mistake deciding the relegation. Can you let a referee of his format, experience and palmarès go with such a medial aftermath? Absolutely no, I think.

Gräfe's appointment is not officially confirmed, though! It is a newspaper report by the German tabloid press. Not more. I actually also expect Fritz.

      Delete
    3. Concerning Stark: In Germany it's common to get a lazy "summer kick around" as farewell match.

Concerning Fritz: I think it's quite obvious that there is a small elite group within the German referees, that gets 95% of the important matches: Brych, Aytekin, Gräfe, Stieler, Zwayer, Stark. Everyone else has to be considered as B-group. If Fröhlich and Krug thought anyone of the B-group was capable of such an intense clash at the moment, they certainly would have avoided the name Gräfe.

    4. FCB-SCF: Drees, Gerach, Gittelmann
      BVB-BRE: Perl, Stein, Emmer
      BMG-D98: Stark, Pickel, Petersen
      HER-LEV: Aytekin, Dietz, Beitinger
      KÖL-M05: Hartmann, Leicher, Schüller
      HSV-WOB: Gräfe, Schaal, Sinn
      FCI-S04: Willenborg, Jablonski, Bornhorst
      HOF-FCA: Fritz, Kleve, Pelgrim
      SGE-RBL: Brych, Borsch, Lupp

      Delete
    5. To be honest, Fritz isn't able to handle such important games in the way, Gräfe does it. Unfortunately Fritz' last performance showed that once again. According to my opinion, there should be any problems two years after a (questionable) free-kick decision. I can accept this background and these reports - I could not accept to appoint a worse referee only to avoid these reports. Concering Stark, it would be a very, very, very bad idea to appoint him in his very last game for such an important clash. Great to see all the three Stark, Perl and Drees once again! Especially for the last one it isn't natural as he was injured for a long time.

    2. Head of Polish referees terminated the professional contract with him. 'Actually, we have better referees. He will have to live off something different than refereeing' - Przesmycki said then...

Now, Raczkowski missed 3-5 penalties (depending on the opinions) in his last game. His name is missing this matchday. Marciniak is in South Korea and some top refs were appointed to second tier' fight for promotion.

The problem is we have no prospect referees in the second category (Sulikowski who'll make his debut on Saturday is 40yo; other non-FIFA refs in Ekstraklasa are 36-48yo) apart from Wojciech Myć, who will become the second Szymon Marciniak, I may guarantee it. He is still a third category referee but already got the top game in the second tier. 27 yo, former body-builder and fitness coach. You should remember this name ;)

  20. It was great to see yet another team get a fair shake against the mighty Real Madrid.

With Madrid up 1-0. A Madrid defender does his best volleyball player imitation by handling the ball within his penalty area. Referee waives it off.

Then the oh so technical and never dirty or guilty Ramos bundles into the Celta striker. And not only does the referee not blow for the clear penalty. He then worsens the situation by saying that the Celta player actually dove in his misjudged opinion. And because the Celta had already been cautioned earlier in the match. He had to send him off.

But yeah, in summary, carry on, nothing to see here. And Celta has absolutely no reason to feel aggrieved at all.

    1. It was definitely NOT in the penalty area but do you. Celta also got away with things but I guess it's just acceptable to only mention, highlight and take situations that go in madrid's favor while ignoring everything else.
Go on. Nothing to see here at all /s

    1. No, he will continue another year in serie A, leaving the FIFA list on 31/12/17.

    2. I must correct myself, I'm quite shocked as well, but it seems that a few time ago, after the final whistled, Rizzoli has announced that this was indeed his last game in serie A. Unexpected, because he had planned another season before his retirement in 2018.

  22. Osijek-Dinamo

    Referee:Ivan Bebek

Positive sign that this is alredy 3rd consecutive week that Bebek was appointed
and also 3 weeks he's been appointed for match were good teams are playing ,this is also maybe title deciding,if Dinamo don't win against Osijek, they don't have any chances for title.

Just found this, a ranking of Primera Liga referees compiled by a newspapers giving them a mark out of thirty and finding an average mark and creating a table (as you can see a weighted system).
Of course in France, Spain, Italy they release a referee ranking by the association every year but without the score.
Just interested - do you know if any other media makes scores and a ranking table like this, and do you know about other federations realising an internal ranking?

    1. Spanish ranking includes a score. However, this score doesn't exactly work as in UEFA. I don't know for sure how it really works. MARCA also gives a prize to the referee they consider has been the best. However, I think that the rest of the ranking is not made public.

  24. Very soft if not totally wrong penalty assigned to Dortmund by Perl.
This will be crucial for CL group stage's direct qualification.
I must say, if we take into account also Borussia Dortmund - Hoffenheim, the latter team was really unlucky. They couldn't manage the third place.

    http://www.itasportpress.it/serie-a/rizzoli-smentisce-corvino-napoli-fiorentina-non-e-stata-la-mia-ultima-partita/

Rizzoli smentisce Corvino: “Napoli-Fiorentina non è stata la mia ultima partita”

    Google translate:

Rizzoli denies Corvino: "Napoli-Fiorentina was not my last game"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Indeed, today Rizzoli said: "It is not sure whether this was my last game".
We can't confirm his retirement. In any case, it seems as he will get a match of WC qualifiers on June, he mentioned this chance.

  31. Absolutely ridiculous and joke of a penalty awarded by referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez to Barcelona for the 3–0... That was an absolutely crystal clear dive by Neymar by a long way and this has to be one of the worst decisions in La Liga this season... Absolute shocker I must say!!! 😯😯
